Medical Dictation Workflow

Last Updated: Jul 28, 2012 04:50PM BST
ClinicYou has a Java based voice capturing facility which allows you to implement medical dictation workflow.  Voice captured can be sent to your own typists (support staff) or you can choose to use ClinicYou Typing Pool (charges apply). Within patient EMR, there are two places where you can use the dictation interface.
  1. In the SOAP notes section, you can choose to dictate your summary if you do not want to type
  2. You can dictate a new letter (document) if you wish.
Whenever you see the checkbox labelled 'if you are dictating this, check this..', you can initiate your dictation workflow.

The Java applet may take several seconds to load up. Once it does, you can use the onscreen buttons to control your voice capture. On a Windows computer using Internet Explorer and Active X enabled, you can use a Phillips Speechmike to control the onscreen elements using its buttons.

Once you save the voice file, clicking Send to Dictate will send the file to transcription interface and will notify the appropriate person (your own staff or our typists).

Once the dictation is transcribed, the originating clinician will receive notification and he/she will be able to check and approve the transcription. Until this is done, the voice file will be visible in the patient's EMR and will be playable instead of a letter.
